US President Donald Trump criticised tech billionaire Elon Musk over his announcement of a new political party, calling it a move that would only create "disruption and chaos" in the American political system.
Taking to his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed frustration over Musk’s political ambitions, claiming the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has gone “completely off the rails” and is now a “train wreck.”
Trump further asserted that third parties have never succeeded in US history and only serve to divide voters.
“He (Musk) even wants to start a third political party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States. The system doesn’t seem designed for them. The one thing third parties are good for is the creation of complete and total DISRUPTION & CHAOS,” Trump wrote.
The US president praised the Republican Party, calling it a "smooth running machine" that successfully passed what he described as a “big, beautiful bill.”

Trump claimed this legislation ended the controversial EV mandate, a move he said worked against Musk’s interests, as it would have forced consumers to buy electric vehicles in a short time frame.
“I’ve strongly opposed the EV mandate from the beginning. People are now free to choose whatever they want, gasoline-powered, hybrids (which are doing very well), or new technologies as they emerge. No more EV mandate,” he added.
Trump also said that Elon Musk had previously supported him, knowing full well his opposition to the EV mandate.
In a surprising allegation, Trump revealed that Musk had once lobbied for Jared Isaacman, a known Democrat and close associate of Musk, to be appointed as head of NASA. Trump objected to this, saying, “While I thought his friend was very good, I was surprised to learn that he was a blue blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before. Elon probably was, also. I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elon’s corporate life.”
Inside the Trump-Musk breakup: Key reasons behind their rift
He concluded by saying, “My number one charge is to protect the American public!”
The clash began after Musk announced the formation of a new political party called the “America Party” in a post on X, saying the party was created to “give you back your freedom.”
Responding to the move, Trump reportedly called it “ridiculous” during a Sunday press talk in New Jersey.
It’s worth noting that Elon Musk once served as one of Trump’s top campaign supporters and was appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) during Trump’s presidency. However, he later resigned from the post, and their relationship has since soured.
