A driver drove his car into a crowd of people celebrating Liverpool FC's Premier League title win on Monday, injuring several individuals, including children. The incident occurred on Water Street towards the end of the club’s trophy parade.
British police confirmed that a 53-year-old white male driver was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities stated that the incident appears to be an isolated act and not related to terrorism.
Eyewitnesses reported that a black car sped into the crowd, causing chaos and panic. "People were running, screaming… I saw a boy, probably about 15, holding his leg and bleeding. There were loads of people there," one witness told The Guardian, adding that he believed the vehicle hit dozens of fans.
Emergency services responded swiftly. According to the North West Ambulance Service, 27 people were taken to hospital, including two with serious injuries, while 20 others received treatment on-site for minor injuries. Children were reportedly among those hurt.
Witnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as people screamed and rushed to help the injured. Some bystanders surrounded the car in anger before police arrived and brought the situation under control.
In a statement, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer expressed deep regret over the incident.
"The scenes in Liverpool are appalling – my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking inciden," he said.

Prime Minister Starmer urged the public to remain calm and allow police to carry out a thorough investigation. “I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.”
Liverpool FC also released a statement via social media, confirming that they are in direct contact with Merseyside Police.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities,” the club said.
The motive behind the driver’s actions remains unclear as investigations are ongoing.
