US stealth bombers were flying over the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, according to aircraft tracking data and media reports, adding to speculation about their possible mission as President Donald Trump weighs military action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Multiple B-2 bombers reportedly departed from a central US base overnight and were later seen operating off the California coast, accompanied by aerial refueling tankers, The New York Times and several flight monitoring platforms reported.
The B-2 Spirit is designed to carry some of the US military’s most powerful munitions, including the GBU-57 bunker-busting bomb, a 30,000-pound warhead capable of penetrating up to 200 feet underground.
This weapon, which is not part of Israel’s known arsenal, is considered one of the few capable of targeting Iran’s fortified nuclear facilities.
When contacted, the Pentagon declined to comment and directed inquiries to the White House, which has not yet issued a statement.
Trump, who is expected to return to the White House on Saturday evening, is scheduled to chair a “National Security Meeting,” though no details have been made public.
On Friday, the president warned that Iran has "a maximum of two weeks" to change course or face potential US airstrikes.
