A photograph circulating widely on social media recently sparked strong reactions after claims were made that the Kiswa of the Kaaba had been laid out on the ground.
The image caused concern among Muslims, as the Kiswa holds deep religious and spiritual significance.
According to Inside the Haramain, the authenticity of the viral image was investigated through consultations with individuals associated with the Grand Mosque and subject experts. After a detailed examination, experts confirmed that the fabric shown in the image is not the original Kiswa.
Experts noted that the length and width of the cloth in the image do not correspond to the actual dimensions of the Kiswa. Large original Kiswa panels usually require seven to eight people to move, whereas the cloth in the viral image appears small enough to be handled by three to four individuals.
The report further stated that the weight and texture of the fabric also differ significantly from that of the real Kiswa.
The authentic Kiswa is heavy and firm, and when placed on the ground it does not develop visible creases. In contrast, the fabric in the image shows folds, indicating that it is a light, ordinary cloth.

Experts added that the thickness and embroidery of the genuine Kiswa give it a distinct structure and appearance, which are absent in the viral image. The design elements and borders also do not match the original.
The authentic Kiswa features clearly defined black frames and intricate patterns, whereas these details appear faint or inconsistent in the image.
The stitching and finishing along the edges further confirm the mismatch.
After carefully comparing multiple samples, borders and design features, experts concluded that the fabric shown in the viral image is not the original Kiswa, and claims suggesting otherwise are baseless and misleading.
