Once recognised as the heaviest man alive, Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari from Saudi Arabia, underwent a remarkable transformation, and successfully returned to a normal life after losing an astonishing 542 kilograms.

Shaari, who had been nearly bedridden for three years due to his immense weight, now weighs just 63.5 kilograms.

He weighed 610 kilograms in 2013 and was unable to move on his own and relied entirely on his family for care.

His critical condition caught the attention of King Abdullah, who arranged a team of 30 doctors to provide him with free medical treatment.

Originally from Jazan, Shaari was transported to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh using a forklift and a custom-made bed.

His treatment included gastric bypass surgery, along with other medical procedures, physiotherapy, personalised exercise, and a diet plan.

Shaari shed half his body weight in just the first six months of treatment. In 2023, after years of ongoing treatment, including procedures to remove excess skin, his weight had dropped to just 63.5 kilograms.

Throughout his remarkable journey, Shaari developed a close bond with the hospital staff, who affectionately referred to him as “the smiling man.”

Shaari is now unrecognisable after his stunning transformation.
