In an astonishing incident, a driver in Indonesia plummeted from a 40ft height after being misled by Google Map’s route guide that brought him to an unfinished bridge. A video of the incident went viral on social media.

The incident was recorded in the roadside surveillance cameras.

Rudie Heru Komandono, 61, was driving his BMW 3 Series on April 9 when he set the location of a friend’s house using Google Maps on his smartphone.

Trusting the app blindly, he followed the route through East Java, unaware that it had redirected him onto a new and incomplete road.

Instead of taking a proper exit, Rudie mistakenly drove through a gap in a concrete barrier and onto an under-construction bridge.

As a result, the video showcased a luxury sedan traveling across the unfinished section before plunging to the road below.

Luckily, the car did not hit other vehicles and landed in the lane closest to the median, while the video showcased two cars and a motorcycle passing just before the dangerous arrival of the car.

However, Rudie believed that it was not his fault, but he simply followed GPS on his phone.

He stated that the road became ghostly dark, and there were no cars after which he realised that the situation was turning ominous. Suddenly, the car lurched and crashed onto the ground.

However, he admitted that the GPS made him confused and brought him to the wrong thoroughfare.

“I'm worried about the insurance for the car. I don't think it can be repaired,” he told Dailymail.

Investigators determined that Rudie had been relying on an outdated Google Maps navigation, which directed him to take the bridge despite its 2022 collapse due to heavy flooding. Notably, there were no warning signs indicating the bridge was closed.
