A man was left shocked after he found that he had been mistakenly paying his neighbour's electricity bill for nearly two decades.

Ken Wilson, who has been residing in his apartment in Solano County since 2006, noticed his Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) bill increasing.

To reduce costs, he cut down on energy consumption. However, when his bill remained high, he visited the PG&E office.

"Even after I turned off my breakers, I kept going outside to check my meter to see if it was still running and it was still running. And I couldn't believe it," Wilson said.

Utility company employees were perplexed and suggested him "either a leak, electricity theft, or a meter issue".

To investigate the matter, the employees inspected Wilson's home and discovered that the company had been charging him for his neighbour's electricity.

Wilson believed this mix-up has been ongoing since he moved in 18 years ago. The utility company accepted their mistake and promised to make amends in the bill.
