Termites destroy farmer’s buried savings after nearly a year

An Indian farmer recovered Rs 500,000 that he had buried in his field to hide the money from his sons, nearly a year later. However, most of the cash had been severely damaged by termites.

According to Indian media reports, the farmer, from a village in Rajasthan, had sold part of his land for Rs 500,000 around a year ago. Fearing that his sons might spend the money if he kept it at home, he put the cash in a plastic bag, dug a hole in his field, and buried it there.

Reports said that sometime after burying the money, the farmer forgot the exact location. Later, when he needed money for construction work at home, he remembered the cash he had hidden in the field.

The farmer searched the entire field but was unable to find the money. He eventually told his family about the buried cash, but they did not initially believe his account. Despite this, the family joined him in searching the field, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.

Nearly a year later, during the monsoon season, water began accumulating in the field. The farmer then noticed a bag floating in the water. When he opened it with his family, he was shocked to find the buried cash inside.

However, the excitement was short-lived. Most of the Rs 500 notes inside the bag had been badly damaged by termites and were reportedly rendered unusable.

The family also took the damaged currency to a bank, but according to reports, bank officials refused to provide any assistance.

In the end, the Rs 500,000 the farmer had buried in his field for safekeeping was finally recovered after nearly a year. However, a substantial portion of his savings had been destroyed by termites.
