A woman demanded a divorce from her husband because her partner does not bathe daily and she finds his disregard for personal hygiene "unacceptable".

According to Indian media, a woman, who married a man named Rajesh in Agra a month ago, sought divorce from her husband after learning of his poor personal hygiene.

The newlywed bride stated that her husband does not care about cleanliness and bathes only once or twice a month, leaving him with an offensive body odour.

Rajesh sprinkles Gangajal (Ganga river water) on himself once a week, which is considered holy. After marriage, he bathed 6 times in 40 days only at his wife's insistence.

The woman visited the local family counseling centre and said that she wanted to end the marriage.

She decided to return home after filing for divorce, however, the parents have filed a dowry harassment complaint against Rajesh.

The matter prompted police intervention, and the couple was advised to attend counseling to improve their relationship.

Indian media reported that the woman decided to reconcile with her husband after he promised to prioritise his hygiene and bathe daily.

Previously, a woman in India left her home and refused to live with her husband because she disliked his skin tone.

The incident took place at a village in India's Jhansi, where a woman named Jyoti fled her home and abandoned her husband, Durgapal, after six years of marriage.

On September 2, Durgapal searched for his wife and filed a complaint of her disappearance at the Lahchura Police Station.

Durgapal also reported that a substantial amount of cash and valuables were missing from the home following Jyoti's disappearance.

Despite extensive efforts by the local police, the woman could not be found. However, CCTV footage showed Jyoti leaving her home on a motorcycle with two unidentified men.

Jyoti was apprehended by authorities in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, a few days later.

During the interrogation, the woman stated that she was unhappy with her husband's skin color and accused her in-laws of demanding dowry.

The woman insisted on ending her marriage with Durgapal.

On the other hand, Durgapal accused Jyoti of stealing money and jewellery saying that she behaved disrespectfully towards his family.

Durgapal also claimed that Jyoti had demanded a dowry of INR1 million and threatened to report his family to the police if her demands were not met.
