Government reduces petrol and diesel prices by Rs5 per litre

The government has announced a reduction in petroleum prices, lowering the rates of both petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs5 per litre.

According to the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been reduced to Rs409.78 per litre following the latest revision.

Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has also been cut by Rs5 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs409.58 per litre.

The revised prices were announced as part of the government’s regular review of petroleum product rates.

The notification states that both petroleum products have been made cheaper by Rs5 per litre compared to the previous prices that were effective from May 9, 2026.

The reduction in fuel prices is expected to provide some relief to consumers, particularly transporters and commuters, amid ongoing economic pressures.
