The federal government is preparing a scheme to provide energy-saving fans to electricity consumers on easy, interest-free installments, according to official sources.
The initiative, approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is expected to be announced in the upcoming federal budget.
Under the proposed plan, consumers will be able to purchase energy-efficient DC fans with the support of commercial banks. The cost of the fans will be recovered in small monthly payments through consumers’ electricity bills, making the scheme financially accessible to a large segment of the population.
The primary objective of the program is to encourage the use of DC fans, which consume significantly less power compared to conventional AC fans. Authorities estimate that the nationwide transition to energy-efficient fans could result in power savings of up to 5,000 megawatts.

The government also plans to consult the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the scheme, as part of broader energy sector reforms and efficiency initiatives.
In addition to easing the burden on the national power grid, the program is expected to reduce household electricity expenses, particularly during peak summer months. Further details of the scheme are expected to be shared in the upcoming budget presentation.
