The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Friday approved a fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of 75 paisa per unit for August, placing an additional burden of about Rs9.8 billion on electricity consumers.

According to a notification issued by the regulator, the June 2026 FCA of Rs0.7503 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) will be charged in August bills for K-Electric and power distribution companies (Discos) that originated from Wapda.

The adjustment will apply to all consumer categories, including those under the incremental consumption package and prepaid tariff users, except lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations and certain prepaid electricity consumers.

Nepra said the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had sought an FCA of Rs1.20 per unit after reporting the actual fuel cost for June at Rs8.9138 per kWh against the reference rate of Rs7.7138 per kWh.

However, after making adjustments, the regulator fixed the actual fuel cost component at Rs8.4641 per kWh and approved a lower FCA of 75 paisa per unit for August billing instead of the requested Rs1.20.
