Pakistan is all set to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on June 17 (Monday) to mark the end of the Hajj and to commemorate Prophet Ibraham’s (AS) readiness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to Allah.

The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) estimated that 6.88 million animals are set to be slaughtered across the country on the festival.

According to PTA, the breakdown of estimated sacrifices includes 3.3 million goats, 2.85 million cows/bulls, 165,000 buffaloes, 385,000 sheep, and 99,000 camels.

The PTA has estimated the value of cow skin at Rs1500 and goat skin at Rs425, with the total value of cow skins expected to reach Rs4.29 billion and goat skins worth Rs1.4 billion.

As per the tentative figures provided by PTA, the skins of sacrificed animals are expected to be worth Rs6 billion.

After chemical processing, the value of skins is expected to rise to Rs18 billion, and if sold as leather products, the value could reach Rs35 billion.

Former President PTA, Danish Khan, predicted that a 10-15% decrease in sacrifices would be witnessed this year due to rising inflation.
