Pakistan Railways has recorded a historic year in 2025, generating more than Rs 93 billion in revenue, marking one of its most successful periods in recent history.

Under the leadership of Minister of Railways Hanif Abbasi, appointed on 7 March, the national rail service oversaw a range of significant developments.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated projects at Karachi Cantt Station on 17 November, enhancing both infrastructure and passenger facilities.

The creation of a dedicated Safety Department helped reduce the accident rate to just 0.04 percent, with no major train accidents reported during the year.

Several initiatives were launched to promote tourism and public-private partnerships.

The Zero Point Thar Desert Safari Train was inaugurated to boost cultural tourism, while the Shah Hussain and Pak Business Express trains operated under PPP models. Additionally, the Khushal Khan Khattak Express was restored after a five-year hiatus.

In 2025, 394 acres of railway land were reclaimed from illegal occupants, strengthening departmental assets.

Despite operational challenges such as increased fares and train delays caused by fog, Pakistan Railways maintained robust performance, making 2025 a landmark year for the country’s rail network.
