The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday issued separate fuel cost adjustment notifications for Karachi and the rest of the country.
For Karachi, there’s positive news: K-Electric consumers will see a Rs 2.99 per unit reduction in their electricity bills as part of the March 2025 fuel cost adjustment, which will be reflected in June’s billing cycle.
The relief is expected to ease some pressure on households amid rising living costs.
However, consumers outside Karachi will experience the opposite effect. NEPRA’s notice confirms a 93 paisa per unit increase in power tariffs under the April 2025 adjustment.
This hike will also appear in upcoming electricity bills, adding to the burden on users already grappling with high energy costs.

NEPRA conducted thorough internal evaluations and external validations of KE’s submissions through accredited auditing firms to ensure adherence to the MYT framework.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of KE, Muhammad Aamir Ghaziani, emphasised that these costs were part of the Multi-Year Tariff awarded for 2017-2023, accepted after severe benchmarks, audits, and regulatory conditions.
Recent hearings have scrutinized K-Electric Write-Off claims, including an additional PKR 8.1 billion request.
