A unique study by American experts revealed that both insufficient and excessive sleep can lead to serious health issues. 

Multiple past researches linked poor sleep to heart disease, stroke, mental illness, and diabetes.

However, in a recent study, experts examined the mental health and sleep duration of 40,000 middle-aged people.

After examining the sleep duration records of all the individuals, findings indicate that both too little and too much sleep trigger significant changes in brain nerves, particularly in areas crucial for nerve activity and memory. 

Sleeping less than 7 hours or more than 9 hours is associated with alterations in the brain, leading to conditions like stroke and dementia. 

Experts highlight that both less and more sleep can lead to changes in the brain, potentially causing paralysis and dementia. They emphasize the crucial role of quality and proper sleep in maintaining overall health.

While a precise definition of ideal sleep duration isn't provided, the study suggests that at least 7 hours is beneficial. 

The study findings were published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
