At least five people have died in rain-related incidents in Karachi as monsoon showers lashed the city on Tuesday, causing urban flooding.

Four people lost their lives in Gulistan-e-Jauhar's Block 12 when the wall of a house collapsed, while a child died in Orangi Town Sector 11½ after a wall came down on him, rescue officials said.

Intermittent heavy showers have inundated low-lying areas, submerging homes in Quaidabad, Landhi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, and Liaquatabad C-1 area. Major roads, including Sharea Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, and M.R. Kayani Road, are waterlogged, resulting in massive traffic jams that left thousands of commuters stranded.

Police and traffic officials advised citizens to avoid underpasses such as Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, and Gharibabad due to rainwater accumulation. The Clifton underpass from Do Talwar to Teen Talwar has also been closed.

Weather experts have warned of more rain in the coming days. Meteorologist Jawad Memon said cloud formations over the city are likely to bring additional downpours, potentially worsening flooding.

A spokesperson for the Pakistan Meteorological Department said a depression system near India’s West Odisha is expected to reach Gujarat in the next 36 hours, affecting Sindh until August 23. This system may trigger moderate to heavy rainfall in most parts of the province, including Karachi, raising concerns of further urban flooding.
