A five-member committee has been formed to investigate alleged childbirth in a washroom at Karachi's Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

A woman allegedly delivered a baby in a washroom of the hospital due to doctors' negligence.

According to media reports, officials confirmed the formation of the committee, stating that it comprises two professors, an executive director, a joint director and an assistant director.

Professor Haleema Yasmeen has been appointed chairperson of the inquiry committee, while Professor Abdul Rab Bhutto and Dr Saddam Saleh are among its members.

They said that the committee would probe the matter from all aspects and submit its final report to the hospital administration on Monday next week.

CCTV footage and all available evidence would be collected as part of the investigation. Statements of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff who were on duty in the gynecology ward and emergency department at the time of the incident will also be recorded.

The inquiry report would determine whether there was any negligence on the part of the hospital administration or staff, or whether the claims made by the affected family were inaccurate. Strict legal action would be taken against those responsible if negligence is proven, the officials said.
