Australian police have begun looking into claims that American singer Katy Perry assaulted Australian actor Ruby Rose at a nightclub in Melbourne more than ten years ago — an accusation the singer has firmly rejected.

Victoria Police said officers from its specialist unit dealing with sexual offences and child abuse are examining a report of an alleged incident dating back to 2010.

Authorities said they were informed that the incident is believed to have taken place at a licensed venue in Melbourne’s central business district. They added that no further details could be shared at this stage as inquiries are ongoing.

The development follows a recent social media post by Rose, in which she accused Perry of assault at a Melbourne nightclub. The comment was made while reacting to an online discussion related to Perry’s response to a performance by Justin Bieber at the Coachella festival.

Responding to the allegation, Perry’s representative dismissed the claim outright, calling it baseless and misleading. The statement said the accusation was false and irresponsible, and also alleged that Rose has previously made serious public claims that were denied by those concerned.
