Pakistan’s renowned writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has once again stirred controversy after he likened men, who demand dowry, to hijra, an offensive word used for transgender persons to ridicule them.

He made the derogatory remarks in his recent appearance on a private news channel's program, Meri Saheli.

“I prefer love marriage because I think that is the only way of getting rid of the curse of dowries in our society. Jahez is the biggest sin. If a man doesn’t demand a dowry from his wife, he would already win his wife's half-love."

"Your wife would wash your feet if you don't put her parents in undue financial burden," Qamar added.

The writer, notoriously known for his misogynistic rants and for disrespecting any woman who dares disagree with him, further offered unwanted advise to women for maintaining their marriage lives.

“For God’s sake, women, if you don’t look after your body, if you don’t keep your physique beautiful, you will lose your man. A woman has to maintain herself if she is to keep her man interested. Start taking care of yourself,” he said.

The surprising point of the program was that the women present at the moment, both hosts and guests, lauded Qamar for his statements with comments like "Wow beautiful, Absolutely correct" etc.
