Renowned actor Mansha Pasha defended Pakistani celebrities against criticism of their attire at Yashma Gill’s sister’s wedding, emphasising that culture and fashion evolve over time.
Mansha shared pictures with fellow celebrities from the wedding event, showcasing enchanting festive ensembles. However, the outfits drew backlash from some who claimed they reflected Indian culture rather than Pakistan’s.
Critics also objected to the revealing nature of the attires, arguing that they went against Pakistan’s traditionally modest culture, where covering the body is generally prioritised.
Mansha Pasha decided to address the backlash after noticing comments accusing celebrities of imitating Indian culture or dressing immodestly.
One Instagram user commented on her post, saying she was "born and raised in the US" but felt disappointed by the attire of Pakistani celebrities.
“I wish we would keep our religion and culture and not copy India,” the user added.
In response, Mansha wrote, “I think no country stays the same. Culture evolves and is influenced not by neighbors but by the world at large, including fashion, it’s global.”
Mansha maintained that it is unfair to expect a culture to remain stagnant or resist influences from its surroundings. However, she also expressed respect for the critic’s opinion.
Later, Mansha took to her Instagram story to share clippings from old Pakistani magazines showing women dressed in bold outfits.
She asserted, “Can’t understand this selective whitewashing of history and culture to shame women today.”
Earlier, veteran actor Hina Khawaja Bayat also reacted to viral dance videos from the Yashma Gill's sister's wedding event and appeared unimpressed with the celebrities’ outfits.
However, Hina later clarified that her statement regarding clothing was misinterpreted by social media pages. She denied commenting on the outfits of Hania Aamir or Yashma Gill, saying her remarks were taken out of context.
