MNA Sharmila Faruqui has criticized actor Danish Taimoor over his recent comments on polygamy, calling them a reflection of male dominance disguised as religious entitlement.
Taimoor, who hosts Mehfil-e-Ramzan, made the remarks during a recent episode while appearing alongside his wife, Ayeza Khan. He stated that Islam permits men to have four wives and suggested that his decision to remain with only one was an act of generosity.
His comments sparked backlash, leading him to issue an apology.
Faruqui responded via Instagram, stating that marriage should not be framed as a favor from men to women.
She argued that polygamy in Islam is a conditional exception, not a privilege, and that many men fail to meet its strict requirements of justice.

The politician also pointed out the social conditioning that pressures women to silently accept such statements, highlighting how Khan’s reaction underscored these deeply ingrained attitudes.
Taimoor later apologized, acknowledging that his words may have been poorly chosen. However, criticism continues over the way he presented his views in front of his wife, particularly his use of the phrase “for now.”
