Indian actress Mrunal Thakur unknowingly responded to several posts by a parody account of TV icon Hania Aamir, thanking the Pakistani actress for praising her as the "best actress."
The fake Hania Aamir account tagged Mrunal Thakur in a post on X, applauding her performance in the movie Sita Ramam alongside co-star Dulquer Salmaan.
“Mrunal Thakur, you have won my heart completely. Dulquer Salmaan was perfection as always. Can’t stop thinking about this masterpiece!” the post read.
Mrunal, unaware that the account was fake, reposted it and wrote, "Thank you so much."
The same parody account later shared another post, again showering praise on Mrunal. This time, the actress responded enthusiastically without realizing the account was not genuine.
In the second post, the fake account wrote: "I may be emotional, but for me, Mrunal Thakur is the best actor of this generation. She is unparalleled. I don't see any other actress so versatile like her in India.”
Flattered, Mrunal replied, “Hania (adding red heart emojis), you made my day. Thank you so much, my dear.”
Following her response, several X users pointed out that she had interacted with a parody account. Despite the clarification, Mrunal neither deleted her posts nor addressed the mistake, possibly because she hadn't yet discovered the truth.
Later, X users added a “Reader’s Context” note to the fake post, stating: “This account is not a real account of Hania.”
Although the parody account mentions in its bio that it is fake, it seems Mrunal may have overlooked this detail.
This incident highlights the risks posed by fake social media accounts, which can easily mislead people into believing they are interacting with genuine personalities.
Many users may not thoroughly check profiles before engaging, making such scenarios increasingly common in the digital age.
