A session court issued a notice to the police on a case of seeking a plea against the Indian movie “Dhurandhar” for defaming Pakistan and showcasing violence and terrorism.

The applicant maintained that the PPP was portrayed as sympathetic towards the terrorist in the movie, meanwhile labelling Lyari as a terrorist war zone.

PPP activist Muhammad Amir applied to sections 22A and B  of the Criminal Procedure Code before the session court.

According to his statement, he said, he had viewed the official trailer of the movie and some clips on social media as well, and he found it as an anti-Pakistan movie, defaming the country. He further said that the movie uses the PPP flag and Ms Benazir Bhutto’s picture without any legal permission.

He also stated that Karachi, especially Lyari, was portrayed as a “terrorist war zone” in the movie, which he alleged that the movie somehow showed Pakistan as a terrrorist state.

The applicant asserted that the proposed accused were responsible for creating, producing, and distributing the allegedly defamatory and provocative content, which, he claimed, amounted to offences including defamation, criminal intimidation, incitement to rioting, and promoting enmity between different groups.

He stated that a written complaint had been submitted to the Darakhshan SHO for FIR registration, but the police had failed to act on it.

The applicant requested that the concerned SHO be directed to register the case and initiate an investigation into the matter.
