Famous Pakistani actor Sarwat Gilani shared her personal struggle with postpartum depression, revealing that she even had thoughts of killing her newborn daughter.

"When a woman is pregnant for the first time, she doesn't have any specific information about pregnancy and she tries to get information by reading pregnancy-related books and watching videos on social media," the Joyland star explained on a private TV channel's morning show.

"The first pregnancy is very difficult for every woman because during this time, she is facing many things psychologically, and in such a situation, the support of her husband and in-laws is very important," she added.

The Jawani Phir Nahi Ani starlet revealed that she did not experience postpartum depression after the birth of her first two sons but suffered severely after the birth of her daughter in December 2023.

"I met my daughter in the hospital four days after birth because I too had surgery, and my newborn daughter was also not well, which is why the doctors admitted both of us in separate wards," Gilanisaid.

"When I held my daughter in my arms, I thought that I should drop her down so that she dies," the actress recalled the dark moments she faced.

"When I went to the room, I was crying, and I told my husband that I want to kill our daughter so that all the tension would end.'

The Churails actor praised her husband, Fahad Mirza, for his support during that challenging time.

Gilani aims to raise awareness about postpartum depression, urging everyone to be informed about this common condition that affects many new mothers.

"I want every man and woman to be aware of it."

After the birth of a child, mothers experience a state of restlessness and despair, which is called postpartum depression.

Gilani, known for playing bold characters on television and the silver screen, is married to actor and plastic surgeon Fahad Mirza.

The duo tied the knot back in 2014 and are parents to Rohan Mirza and Araiz Muhammad Mirza born in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
