Actor and Model Zoya Nasir expressed concern over the negative impact of influencers on young audiences, particularly girls. She highlighted the risk of body dysmorphia as young individuals strive to replicate the unrealistic and highly curated lifestyles portrayed on social media.
Zoya recently appeared on a podcast where she expressed her concerns about influencers promoting unrealistic lifestyles and questionable claims related to health and beauty, which she believes can lead to mental stress and depression among followers.
When asked by the host about the trend of influencers misrepresenting their lives and the impact on young minds, the Noor Jahan actor responded with strong disapproval, highlighting how influencers, driven by the pursuit of likes and views, often mislead their followers.
"Younger people are increasingly affected by anxiety and depression because they have that window on their phones for looking into everyone’s fake life," she remarked.
Zoya added, "For many influencers, this is just a job. Their high-maintenance lifestyle isn’t affordable for most people, yet they rarely consider the impact this has on others."
To illustrate her point, she shared an example: "A dietician on social media posted a recipe for a kahwa, claiming it helped her lose weight. Then, a few days later, she shared another recipe with the same claim. When it comes to achieving health goals, we can’t expect multiple quick fixes to work simultaneously. Trying one thing at a time is important. They’re more focused on views than giving truly helpful advice."
Zoya emphasised that both influencers and celebrities have a responsibility to be authentic in their content.
