Veteran cricket journalist Qamar Ahmed passes away at 88

Karachi: Veteran Pakistani cricket journalist Qamar Ahmed passed away in Karachi on Thursday at the age of 88 after suffering from a heart condition, according to his family.
A pioneer of cricket journalism in Pakistan, Ahmed enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than five decades.
He covered over 400 Test matches, 738 One-Day Internationals, nine Cricket World Cups, and numerous ICC events worldwide. He also contributed to several international publications, including BBC World Service, The Guardian, The Times, and The Daily Telegraph.
Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1937, Ahmed migrated to Pakistan after Partition and later captained the Hyderabad cricket team. He also played 17 first-class matches, worked as a commentator, authored several cricket books, and was part of the commentary team for the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
In 2011, he was made an honorary life member of the Cricket Writers' Club in recognition of his contributions to cricket journalism.
Tributes poured in from across the cricket community, with former Pakistan captain Younis Khan expressing sorrow over the loss and remembering his long association with the veteran journalist.
