Two YouTuber sisters, known on YouTube as Amara with Life, have responded to criticism over a vlog showing the final moments of their dying father, saying the video was distorted and went viral out of context. The sisters were widely condemned after a clip showed their father seemingly urging viewers to like and subscribe to their channel while on his deathbed.
Their statement came amid heated debate on social media about privacy, morality, and the boundaries of content creation, with many questioning whether distressing personal moments should be shared publicly.
A fellow YouTuber, who claimed to know the sisters personally, shared their statement in a video, explaining that many viewers did not watch the full vlog.
He said a short clip was taken out of context, circulated widely, and criticised without verifying the facts. He also noted that several prominent YouTubers contributed to spreading the video.
The sisters revealed that their father had been ill for four years and that their two brothers were unable to work due to disabilities. They said vlogging was their only source of income, providing a moderate livelihood. They also noted that they had delayed marriage to care for their father and manage household responsibilities.
In their statement, the sisters emphasised that people had unfairly criticised them, failing to see the full video.
They explained that they were merely recalling moments when their father had previously encouraged viewers to like and subscribe to their channel, and they remembered this in their father’s final moments.
The sisters expressed distress at the harsh online comments, which labeled them as negligent or heartless toward their father, despite their dedicated care throughout his illness.
The vlog, uploaded three weeks ago, has now garnered over 500,000 views, making it the most-watched video on their channel.
In the video, the sisters are shown crying as their father lay weak and unresponsive. One sister held his hand and encouraged him to tell viewers to like and subscribe, reportedly in a desperate effort to revive him. Later, they called for an ambulance, but their father passed away.
