A leading real estate company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that it will build the world's second-tallest building, Burj Azizi, in Dubai.
The 725-metre (2,379-foot) tall structure will surpass Malaysia's Merdeka 118 and stand as a "testament to Dubai's engineering prowess".
According to Chairman Azizi Group of companies Mirwais Azizi, the company had initially considered two designs - one for a 526-metre high building and another for a 725-metre high building.
After receiving approval for the taller design, the company has made significant progress on the additional foundation work.
The 131-storey Burj Azizi will feature apartments, a 7-star luxury hotel, and a 7-storey shopping mall.
Located in Dubai's World Trade Centre district, it will be approximately 340 feet shorter than the Burj Khalifa, currently the world's tallest building.
The construction of Burj Azizi is expected to be completed in 2028, with a budget of $1.06 billion.
The new addition will further solidify Dubai's reputation as a hub for architectural innovation, boasting the highest number of 300-metre high buildings of any city globally.
Dubai is renowned for its record-breaking constructions, including the world's tallest infinity pool and the largest natural flower garden.
