From Lyari to world stage: Pakistan's Aaliya Soomro makes history with 45-second knockout in Bangkok bout

Pakistan's Alia Soomro (23) became the nation's first female world boxing champion with a stunning 44-second knockout of Thailand's Suthida Gunya Noch in Bangkok.

The Lyari-born athlete secured the title with a single decisive punch in the opening round of the championship bout.

The victory marks a watershed moment for Pakistani women's sports. Soomro, who began training in Karachi's boxing hubs at age 14, entered the match as an underdog against her more experienced opponent.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah hosted an official reception at CM House, presenting Soomro with the province's highest civilian honor - the Sindhi Ajrak shawl - and a 1 million rupee cash award. "She's broken glass ceilings for all Pakistani women," Shah stated during the ceremony.

International boxing analysts note the 44-second knockout stands among the fastest title victories in women's boxing history. The World Boxing Council has confirmed Soomro as Pakistan's first female titleholder in any weight class.

Soomro dedicated her win to "every girl dreaming big in Pakistan's streets." Her training team confirms she will defend the title later this year while establishing a boxing academy for underprivileged youth in Lyari.
