Karachi Bar president says Rajab Butt's lawyer wants to resolve issue via dialogue

The issue surrounding the registration of a case by YouTuber Rajab Butt against lawyers was discussed during a general body meeting of the Karachi Bar Association.

Following the meeting, the Karachi Bar Association announced the withdrawal of its call for an indefinite strike.

Speaking to the media, Karachi Bar President Aamir Nawaz Warraich said that Rajab Butt’s counsel, Ali Ashfaq, had contacted him yesterday and again today.

He added that Ali Ashfaq wishes to resolve the matter through mutual understanding and dialogue.

Warraich said the Karachi Bar also wants the issue to be settled amicably.

He announced that Rajab Butt’s lawyer will visit the Karachi Bar on January 3, where his position will be formally heard.

Until then, he said, both sides have agreed to observe a “social media ceasefire”.

The Karachi Bar president stressed that every effort would be made to resolve the matter through dialogue and consensus.

He added that if the issue is not resolved through talks, the Karachi Bar will then formulate its future course of action.
