A terrorist attack on Wana Cadet College in South Waziristan took place on Monday, with three terrorists reportedly still hiding inside the building. At the time of the attack, around 537 students were present on the premises, as security forces launched an operation to evacuate them safely.

According to official sources, at least 137 students have been rescued so far amid heavy gunfire and multiple explosions.

Hundreds of students are still inside, awaiting safe evacuation as security forces devise a plan to ensure their secure passage from the college building, part of which has been infiltrated by the attackers.

Officials confirmed that no students have been taken hostage, and efforts are ongoing to ensure their complete safety.

Terrorists have reportedly been conducting live streams from their hiding place, with several videos surfacing online. One clip allegedly showed an empty lab with explosions heard in the background.

According to Khorasan Diary, during the live streams, the terrorists claimed that they had examined the college for over a month and planned to hold it hostage “for as long as possible.”

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated on Monday that two terrorists were killed during the security operation. The statement added that the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the college premises but were initially thwarted.

However, an explosive-laden vehicle crashed into the main gate, allowing the attackers to enter.

With a swift response, the remaining terrorists were “cornered in the college’s administrative block.” The ISPR confirmed that Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) was behind the attack.

“These Khwarij, belonging to the Indian proxy Fitna al-Khawarij, have once again attempted to repeat the barbaric terrorism carried out in Army Public School Peshawar in 2014,” said the ISPR.

The statement referred to one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s history, when 132 schoolchildren and 15 others were mercilessly killed by TTP attackers on December 16, 2014.
