The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that 2025 will witness four eclipses, consisting of two lunar and two solar eclipses.

However, Pakistan will only be able to view one of these events.

The first event of the year will be a total lunar eclipse, often called a "Blood Moon." This eclipse is scheduled to occur on March 14.

Unfortunately, it will not be visible from Pakistan, but will be observable across several regions, including Europe, Australia, Africa, North and South America, and various oceans like the Pacific and Atlantic.

On March 29, 2025, a partial solar eclipse will occur, but, like the lunar eclipse earlier in the month, it will not be visible from Pakistan. This eclipse will be visible in parts of Europe, Asia, North and West Africa, and most of North America.

The second total lunar eclipse of the year is set to take place on September 7, 2025. This will be the only eclipse visible in Pakistan, providing stargazers a rare chance to witness the "Blood Moon." The eclipse will begin at 08:28 pm and end at 01:55 am on September 8, 2025.

The final celestial event of 2025 will be a partial solar eclipse on September 21, visible from parts of South Australia, the Pacific, the Atlantic, and Antarctica.

What is a Lunar Eclipse?

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is positioned between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the Moon's surface. Lunar eclipses can only happen during a full moon, making them a rare and awe-inspiring sight for skywatchers.

How to Safely View an Eclipse

Viewing a solar eclipse requires proper eye protection. Experts, including NASA, caution against looking directly at the Sun without specialized eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer.

Failure to do so can lead to permanent eye damage. For the safety of viewers, only approved solar viewing glasses should be used to observe any solar eclipse.

In 2025, stargazers in Pakistan will have the unique opportunity to witness a rare "Blood Moon," making it a special year for eclipse enthusiasts in the country.
