Muhammad Akram, the deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail, has been arrested on allegations of aiding the incarcerated former prime minister nd Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan.

Akram was relieved of his duties on June 20 and was replaced by Deputy Superintendent Judicial Tahir Siddique Shah, who took over as the security supervisor for Imran Khan.

The Punjab home department's prison section issued a notification for Akram's removal, instructing him to report to the Prisons Department in Lahore.

Following his arrest, law enforcement agencies have begun interrogating Akram regarding his alleged involvement in conveying messages from Imran Khan to individuals outside the prison.

The Inspector General of Prisons, Punjab, has been formally notified about the arrest and the ongoing investigation. Depending on the outcome, Akram could face departmental action.

Imran Khan, the 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, has been imprisoned for over a year, facing multiple legal cases, including the Toshakhana case, the cipher case, and a case related to an un-Islamic marriage. His wife, Bushra Bibi, has also been incarcerated for several months.
