Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has claimed killings of its party workers in the late-night operation by the security forces on November 26, but the government has been denying the claims and demanding to show at least a body.
To know the facts about the issue, Al Jazeera talked to the families of two killed PTI workers.
Anees Shehzad's death certificate indicates that he succumbed to a pelvic injury and a gunshot wound, Al Jazeera stated in its report.
Al Jazeera interviewed the families of PTI supporters, including Shehzad, who were reportedly killed during the confrontations with security forces. The outlet also sought comments from Tarar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Rana Sanaullah, the political adviser to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, regarding the conflicting claims. However, no responses were received from them.
Shehzad's cousin, Nafees Satti, characterized him as a dedicated PTI supporter who was determined to attend the rally. "We all attempted to dissuade him, but he was resolute because Imran Khan, his political idol, had called for it," Satti informed Al Jazeera.
The international media outlet also reached out to another PTI supporter, Mobeen Aurangzeb's family, from Abbottabad.
His younger brother, Asad, recounted that Mobeen, an active PTI member, intended to participate in the protest, but the family was unaware of the potential dangers involved.
"He was conversing with my sister on the phone when the call abruptly disconnected. When she attempted to call back, a stranger answered and told them that he was injured in the firing."
The family struggled to reach out to Polyclinic hospital due to road closures and also complained no-cooperation of the doctors, the outlet reported.
“The hospital people initially refused to release the body. After hours of pleading, they handed it over around midnight,” Asad said.
