An aid convoy, carrying medical supplies and essential commodities, heading to the peace-interrupted troubled area of Parachinar, turned back after unknown armed men opened fire on a vehicle near Lower Kurram Bagan.

Assistant Commission Hangu Saeed Mannan confirmed the incident and said that “the administration is working to bring the situation under control after the attack in Bagan.”

However, Sajid Turi, a former federal minister from Kurram, stated that small and large weapons were used in the attack.

It is pertinent to mention that a peace agreement was signed on January 1, but on January 4, a government convoy was attacked near the same area, leaving the deputy commissioner injured.

Despite the authorities implementing strict security measures to ensure the safe delivery of much-needed aid, the consignment consisting of 35 vehicles was targeted and stopped from reaching the destination.

Last week, a separate convoy of 40 trucks successfully delivered essential goods to Kurram district, advisor to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, highlighted that these operations aim to provide relief to the affected population.

Barrister Saif believed that this effort could made possible with the help of the grand jirga conducted by the Kurram Peace Committee and local peace groups.

These talks resulted in an agreement to restore the roads and allow transportation of goods safely. He praised the cooperation of local elders in maintaining peace.
