Rawalpindi police on Thursday said that at least 170 police personnel were injured due to the straight firing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters, adding that 25 are in critical condition while 11 police vans were set on fire on November 24.

Alongside, DPO Attock and CPO Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani, Rawalpindi Regional Officer (RPO), Babar Sarfaraz addressed a press conference and  stated, “On November 24, hundreds of thousands of PTI supporters entered in the Attock district, police remained lenient to them, but using a firearm without hesitation they began straight firing on police.”

“Some of them were trained, who skillfully targetted the police personnel,” he added.

Sharing the details, he said, “There were 1,151 suspects arrested in 32 cases registered for disturbing law and order situation in Islamabad and outskirts.”

“At least 64 among them are Afghan nationals, of which four have Afghan registration cards as well, while 60 are living in Pakistan illegally,” he said.

The constantly deteriorating law and order situation in the federal capital over the past three months has left 262 police personnel injured, according to the RPO.

“On November 24, a convoy coming from the CPEC route turned aggressive when police attempted to stop them, they crushed police contingents with their vans and opened fire on them,” said CPO Rawalpindi Hamdani.

As a result of the firing, a police officer, Mubashir, was killed, and 24 were wounded, forcing police to step back.

He further said the protesters used firearms in Sargodha as well, where a police officer was injured after a bullet hit his leg.

According to the police, at least 170 soldiers were injured, but not a single protester was wounded.
