Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s wife, Busrha Bibi, has been detained in Adiala Jail, in the same prison where PML-N leader and Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was held six years ago.
According to the sources, Bushra Bibi is not imprisoned in the designated women's ward at Adiala Jail, instead, she is being held in a room within the Vocational Institute Hall, built by the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA).
Maryam Nawaz was also held in solitary confinement in 2018 within the same facility, adjacent to the women's ward.
In response to a plea filed by the former first lady, the Islamabad High Court granted approval on Wednesday for her transfer from Bani Gala sub-jail to Rawalpindi prison, where her husband is currently incarcerated.
Bushra Bibi was arrested on January 31 following a verdict by an Islamabad accountability court, which sentenced her and Imran to 14 years in prison in connection to the Toshakhana case.
Following the Toshakhana verdict, she had arrived at Adiala Jail, where the National Accountability Bureau’s team was already present, to surrender to the authorities. Subsequently, she was taken into custody by the anti-graft watchdog.
However, former prime minister's spouse was moved to her Banigala home after it was declared a sub-jail in a late-night notification.
She challenged the declaration of Khan House as a sub-jail in the IHC.
The Islamabad High Court suspended Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi's sentences in the Toshakhana case on April 1, however, she continues to be detained due to the Iddat case. Similarly, Imran remains in custody facing several legal cases against him.
