A collision between two vessels, MV Papo and MV NIOWA, occurred within Karachi Port limits, resulting in damage to one ship and a container falling into the sea from the other vessel.

According to port authorities, the incident took place on Wednesday evening when container vessel MV Papo, which was departing Karachi Port, collided with MV NIOWA, a ship involved in the maintenance of underwater cables.

The impact caused damage to the bow section of MV NIOWA, while one container from MV Papo reportedly fell into the sea.

Following the incident, pilots from the Karachi Port Trust responded immediately and safely shifted the damaged vessel, MV NIOWA, to Berth No. 5.

Meanwhile, MV Papo is currently positioned at the outer anchorage area.

Port sources confirmed that the vessel has been detained within Pakistan’s maritime limits to allow a full investigation into the incident.

Sources further stated that an important meeting chaired by the Chairman of Karachi Port Trust is underway to assess the situation, including the extent of the damage and liability matters.

Authorities are currently evaluating the financial losses caused by the collision, after which compensation is expected to be sought from the responsible party.

Port officials have confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
