Amid the outrage, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) denied claims circulating online that Ghulam Mohiuddin Mughal, Director of the Sindh Barrages Improvement Project (SBIP), demanded a luxury 3600-square-foot apartment from the company in exchange for securing a tender for the Sukkur Barrage Project.
A senior official of Sindh Barrages Improvement Project came under fire after being accused of alleged bribe demands after a letter went viral online.
The allegations were made in a letter dated December 30, 2024, addressed to the Karachi branch of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and shared by journalist Imtiaz Chandio.
CRBC said the letter making these allegations was forged, using fake signatures and letterheads, and stated that no such demands were made.
The company called for an investigation into those spreading the false information and legal action to protect the reputation of international firms operating in Pakistan. The Sukkur Barrage upgrade project, valued at Rs34 billion, aims to extend the barrage’s life by 30 years and is crucial for improving water distribution in Sindh.
The firm also warned that failure to address the matter could lead them to suspend work on the project.
