An environmental expert attributed the torrential rains in Balochistan and several parts of the country to a cloud seeding experiment done by the former interim Punjab government to overcome smog in the provincial capital.

Punjab, Sindh Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been witnessing heavy rains. However, the Met Department predicted more irregular rains in the country.

Dr Hassan Abbas linked the significant change in weather conditions with cloud seeding. According to him, the clouds produced for the artificial rain have been affecting the weather system.

He also said that sometimes artificial rain clouds do not open at the same place where they were seeded.

Talking to a private news channel, he said the cloud seeding was made to overcome the fog or smog in Lahore, but now "it's affecting weather across the country".

Abbas informed that cloud seeding makes the energy system faster and generates powerful rain clouds that cause heavy rain.

He also explained the cloud seeding technique that completes with the use of salt and accelerates the speed of vapours' transformation into rain clouds.
