Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan sain on Saturday that party founder Imran Khan has directed the PTI to continue consultations with JUI-F head Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the proposed 26th constitutional amendment.
Addressing a press conference alongside other PTI leaders, Barrister Gohar stated, "We have discussed the amendments with Imran Khan, and he has advised us to keep the dialogue going, as this is a very delicate issue."
He said this following a meeting with the PTI founder, who is currently imprisoned in Adiala jail, to discuss the constitutional changes.
Gohar also revealed that Khan had appointed four party members to join him in the consultations, emphasizing that the aim was to form a well-rounded consensus before making any decisions.
The members named include Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Shibli Faraz, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Ahmed Bhachar, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Gohar clarified that the party was still reviewing the government's fourth draft, and a final decision would be made after consulting with Imran Khan.
Barriser Gohar also addressed the PTI founder's current health and jail conditions, assuring that Khan was in good health, though he had endured five days without electricity in his cell.
During their meeting, Gohar noted that they informed Khan about the discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, to which Khan responded positively, commending the JUI-F chief.
However, Gohar stressed, "We will continue to engage with Maulana Fazl, but we condemn this unconstitutional and undemocratic approach to legislation."
Earlier in the day, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that his party and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief have reached a 100% consensus on the constitutional amendment.
