Court dismisses plea for medical board to determine Armaghan's mental health

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has dismissed an application seeking psychiatric treatment of Armaghan, the prime suspect in the Mustafa Aamir murder case.

The application, filed by the suspect’s mother Sarah Khan, requested the formation of a medical board to determine her son’s mental health and provide him psychiatric treatment if needed.

The state prosecutor, however, opposed the plea, arguing that Armaghan had shown no signs of mental illness. He told the court that the suspect had engaged police in an hours-long shootout during which he opened fire, injuring a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and another official.

The prosecutor further said that the accused had undergone multiple medical examinations during his physical remand in police custody, and records clearly indicated that he was not suffering from any psychiatric disorder.

After hearing arguments, the court rejected the plea, ruling that there was no evidence to support the claim of mental illness.

Earlier, the investigation officer (IO) in the Mustafa Amir murder case filed the final charge-sheet against two suspects before an anti-terrorism court.

Prime suspect Armaghan Kamran and his accomplice, Sheraz alias Shavez Bukhari, were arrested in February in connection with the murder of Mustafa Amir, who went missing on January 6.

In his final investigation report, IO Muhammad Ali said that the last known location of the victim and the two suspects was Armaghan's house in DHA. He said that the victim had also informed his friend Rafay before going to the house, adding that Rafay's statement has been recorded.
