The death toll from a deadly attack on passenger vehicles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Kurram, has risen to 44, with 11 of the injured reported to be in critical condition.

On Thursday, a convoy of 200 vehicles traveling from Peshawar to Parachinar under the supervision of law enforcement agencies came under attack at multiple points in the Mandriv area of Lower Kurram.

The convoy was traveling on a road that had been closed after a similar attack on passenger vehicles in October and was only recently reopened after several weeks.

The incident is believed to have targeted members of the local Shia population.

In response to the tragedy, Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen announced three days of mourning across the country.

During a protest rally in Karachi, party leaders demanded a comprehensive operation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Kurram district, to ensure security and justice.

Local tribal leader Jalal Bangash stated that citizens have taken to the streets in protest against the attack, while the burial of the deceased is underway in various areas.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. He assured the public that those responsible for endangering lives and property will not escape punishment.

Protests and rallies were held in different parts of the country, with participants demanding justice for the victims and strict action against the perpetrators involved in the heinous attack.
