Pakistan’s Foreign Office said it is actively pursuing diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety of its nationals following the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces in international waters.
In a statement, the Foreign Office confirmed that only former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan remains in Israeli custody, while other Pakistanis on board have been released. It added that Islamabad has been in contact with friendly countries over the past 36 hours to secure the early return of its citizens.
“The Government of Pakistan has been closely following the situation concerning the Sumud Flotilla and taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of our nationals,” the statement said.
The flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza, was intercepted earlier this week by Israeli forces. The incident drew criticism from rights groups and international activists, who described the mission as a peaceful attempt to deliver much-needed assistance to civilians in the besieged enclave.
Pakistan strongly condemned what it called the “interception and obstruction” of the aid convoy. It urged Israel to release all detained participants and allow humanitarian supplies to reach Gaza.
Islamabad also reiterated its support for the Palestinian people, calling for unimpeded humanitarian access and an end to restrictions that worsen the crisis in Gaza.
