The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refuted news reports suggesting a delay in the upcoming general elections as 'misleading'.
The general elections are scheduled to take place on February 8.
A spokesperson for the ECP denounced the circulating media claims, deeming them baseless and perplexing. The spokesperson expressed strong skepticism about the credibility of reports on election delays and categorically dismissed assertions of unprepared electoral lists as entirely false.
Furthermore, the ECP spokesperson announced the commission's intention to take legal action against those responsible for spreading such misinformation.
Measures were underway to address the dissemination of deceptive information, with the recording of news broadcasts from various channels being sought to support legal proceedings against those found guilty of spreading misleading information.
Simultaneously, the ECP organized a one-day online training workshop for Regional Monitoring Coordinators (RMCs). The workshop aimed to equip all Regional Election Commissioners in Pakistan with the essential skills for their roles as RMCs. The training covered the Election Commission's monitoring framework and the establishment of monitoring rooms at provincial, divisional, and district levels.
Following this training, Regional Monitoring Coordinators/Regional Election Commissioners will assume responsibility for training District Monitoring Officers and Monitoring Teams in their respective divisions. It's noteworthy that RMCs had previously undergone a two-day training session at the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad two months ago.
