Elderly Pakistani man dies of heart attack in Amritsar during repatriation process

A 69-year-old Pakistani citizen, Abdul Waheed Bhat passed away from a heart attack at the Wagah border on Wednesday. Bhat, a resident of Srinagar, had traveled to Amritsar border to into Pakistan after Indian government's orders.
Amid the heightened tensions following the Pahalgam attack, the process of repatriation of Pakistani and Indian citizens through the Wagah border continued on both sides.
Unfortunately, Abdul Waheed’s journey came to a tragic end. He suffered a heart attack at the Integrated Check Post gate in Attari, and despite being immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Amritsar, he could not be saved.
Abdul Waheed had been living in Srinagar for an extended period. As per reports, he was a heart patient and had been undergoing regular treatment.
On the day of the incident, as per the orders of the Indian government, he was being escorted under police protection from occupied Jammu to Pakistan via the Wagah border.
While his documents were being processed at the border, he collapsed due to the heart attack. Despite efforts to provide immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The Indian police conducted a post-mortem on his body, and necessary legal procedures will follow.
According to Indian media, Bhat had been residing in India since 1980. His visa had expired, and on April 25, the Foreigner Registration Office had issued a directive for him to leave Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
