The European Union has announced that it is providing €700,000 to Pakistan in humanitarian aid to assist the country in recovering from the aftereffects of the devastating flood and landslide that took the lives of several people.

The financial aid will be used for vulnerable communities in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which are hardly hit by natural disasters.

The EU office bearers expressed heartfelt condolences to Pakistan for the lives lost in the exceptionally heavy monsoon rains, which have once again put the resilience of communities across the country to the test.

Taheeni Thammannagoda, who oversees the EU’s humanitarian programmes in Pakistan, said the commission has committed to providing all assistance to its humanitarian partners with the ground response and delivering essential aid.

According to the state-run news agency, the funding will be channelled through the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The emergency response will focus on providing multi-sectoral assistance, including water and sanitation, temporary shelter, and essential relief items to the most affected people.

The said support is in addition to the €11 million allocated by EU humanitarian aid in 2024 for ongoing humanitarian support and disaster preparedness efforts in Pakistan.
