Former Karachi mayor Wasim Akhtar refuted reports of a police raid on his residence in connection with the Mustafa Amir murder case, which has uncovered a drug trafficking network allegedly involving influential figures.

Media reports claim that police are searching for Akhtar’s son, Taimoor Wasim, following revelations made by drug dealer Sahir Hasan, who is currently under investigation in prison. Hasan allegedly named several individuals linked to narcotics smuggling.

Speaking to a private news channel, Akhtar asserted that his son has been residing in the United States for the past four years. He dismissed the allegations as political propaganda orchestrated by his opponents.

In 2020, a case was registered against Taimoor Wasim and others for allegedly assaulting a young man in Karachi’s Defence area. Authorities stated that on New Year’s Eve, the victim attempted to stop Taimoor and his associates from celebratory aerial firing, which led to the assault.

Earlier, Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho revealed that a thorough investigation exposed the involvement of "big names" in the case.

However, after discussions with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon, the police were determined to take strict action against them without granting amnesty, as they were involved in drug smuggling.
