Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, is set to address a special ceremony at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Sunday to mark one year since Marka-e-Haq, the military confrontation between Pakistan and India in 2025.
The ceremony, scheduled to begin at 8:40am, will bring together senior military leadership and officials from all three armed services.
According to officials, the event will include a wreath-laying ceremony at the martyrs’ monument and a tri-services salute in honour of those who lost their lives during the conflict.
Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and Naveed Ashraf are also expected to attend the commemorative event.
Marka-e-Haq — translated as “Battle of Truth” — refers to the 19-day military standoff between Pakistan and India that lasted from April 22 to May 10, 2025.
Tensions escalated after an attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, following which India launched strikes against Pakistan on the night of May 6-7, according to Islamabad.
Pakistani officials have repeatedly claimed that during the 87-hour conflict, the country’s armed forces downed several Indian fighter aircraft, including French-made Dassault Rafale jets, as well as numerous drones.
The confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours ended on May 10 after a ceasefire agreement reportedly facilitated through diplomatic efforts involving the United States.
Earlier this week, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that Pakistan was “preparing for future war”, while maintaining that the country had not underestimated India during the confrontation.
